Higher Education Construction Project Features
JBC has worked in higher education construction for over 20 years. Our team is passionate about supporting the growth of local higher education institutions through our management of classroom, research lab, and community space renovations on campus. We hope our work makes a difference by improving the student and faculty experience.
Baltimore Lab Construction and Relocation
JBC was contracted to renovate 2,250 SF of existing space on the basement level of an existing academic building. Our team worked to relocate the existing lab and construct a new lab space while completing minor renovations to an adjacent research lab. The purpose of this renovation was to update existing engineering laboratories with new finishes, systems, and layouts. Work included selective demolition, upgraded MEP systems, and new light fixtures, ceilings, flooring, and paint. The new space is comprised of a teaching lab and research labs for the Department of Civil & Systems Engineering. This renovation allowed the client to maximize their space and add state-of-the-art equipment to their laboratories.
Describe a project challenge and how the team overcame it.
“During the demolition process, several unforeseen conditions were exposed. For example, after heavy rain, water was seen leaking down the foundation walls which needed to be promptly investigated and addressed prior to wall close-ins. Through continuous communication and collaboration with the client’s Plant Operations team, the schedule and cost impact on the client was minimal.” – Nick G., Assistant Project Manager
Loyola University Maryland – Men’s Basketball & Lacrosse Team Rooms
JBC was contracted by Loyola University to complete interior renovations to the existing Men’s Basketball and Lacrosse Team Rooms. The spaces were given a more open and functional floorplan by removing all existing casework and lockers. New lighting, sprinklers, HVAC ductwork, casework, flooring, and lockers were installed. The colors and updated graphics elevate the space and bring the University’s branding to the forefront.
What did you enjoy about this project?
“Anything athletics is exciting for the University. Seeing the athletes excited about the finished rooms and using the upgraded spaces was awesome.” – Amy S., Assistant Project Manager
Why was this project successful?
“Despite the challenge of working within a condensed summer timeline ahead of the start of the fall semester, the JBC team completed the work in time for the teams’ upcoming seasons! Having happy end-users and a satisfied client assured us that the project was successful not only from our point of view but the entire team’s.” – Chris K., Project Manager
