Get More Involved in the Built Environment! | ABC & MCCEISarah Turnbaugh
JBC has a commitment to the construction industry that goes beyond our work. We feel a sense of duty to support the promotion, quality, and longevity of the industry through active engagement in local organizations like the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Greater Baltimore and Maryland Center for Construction Education and Innovation (MCCEI). JBC’s affiliation with these organizations provides us with the opportunity to engage with industry partners, foster the growth and development of future leaders, and promote the value of a career in the built environment. ABC and MCCEI provide us with numerous opportunities to learn about industry trends and the challenges our industry is facing, all while promoting the growth and success of the construction industry.
ABC Greater Baltimore
“Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Baltimore is the largest organization in Maryland to represent the commercial construction industry. Our 650 members represent the leading general contractors and specialty contractors in the region.” This not-for-profit organization also has nearly 24,000 member firms in 70 chapters nationwide. ABC Greater Baltimore provides value to members through educational workshops, networking opportunities, and apprenticeship programs, giving members the chance to learn from others in the industry across all disciplines. Earlier this year, ABC opened their new Center of Excellence in Baltimore City, in hopes of engaging more city residence in training programs and growing the workforce that we so desperately need. ABC has given JBC so much over the years, and we hope to grow our support of the organization and give back to the industry in meaningful ways for years to come.
Recently, JBC welcomed ABC Greater Baltimore’s Professional Development Mentorship Program participants to our UMB Recycling Center project. This site will soon be home to a new campus electrical distribution center, part of a multi-phase, multi-year plan. This was a great opportunity to educate young construction professionals about the work we are doing. To learn more about ABC and membership opportunities, click here. You can also follow ABC on Facebook.
“MCCEI is an independent and trusted adviser and resource for industry, education, and government. Together, we will make careers in the built environment a first-choice option.” The educational efforts made by MCCEI help to grow the industry, change how careers in the built environment are viewed, and build the next generation of construction professionals. JBC sees true value in all these initiatives and is pleased to have representation on the MCCEI board to help further the impact of the organization.
Recently, MCCEI published Volume 4 of the Build Your Path series, a career resource guide promoting different careers in trades, design, management, and related professions.
