Supporting our Local Community | JBC Gives Back
Jeffrey Brown Contracting has been happily serving the greater Baltimore-Washington region for over 20 years and is grateful for the opportunity to give back to the local community throughout the year. Collectively, our team has a competitive side, so we tend to turn our donation drives into friendly office competitions. Whether it be between individuals, or between JBC’s 3rd-floor employees and 4th-floor employees, we always make giving back fun for our team.
In 2020, supporting the local community became as important as ever, and we are continuing our donation efforts in 2021. As part of our commitment to the community, we are highlighting two Baltimore-based organizations that you can support alongside JBC!
Living Classrooms
Living Classrooms was founded in Baltimore in 1985, and is a Baltimore–Washington, DC nonprofit organization that disrupts the cycle of poverty and helps our community become safer, stronger, and healthier by meeting individuals where they are and building skills for life. Learn more about their organization by clicking here.
In November, JBC participated in Living Classrooms’ Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive by donating a variety of items like canned vegetables and fruits, boxes of mashed potatoes and stuffing, cranberry sauce, pie crusts and fillings, turkey pans, and more. Living Classrooms then creates full Thanksgiving meals, a turkey plus all the fixings, for local families in need. This drive fed over 430 families in 2020! Below is a photo of JBC’s donations that filled the entire cargo area of this SUV.
The Maryland Book Bank
For more than 20 years, the Book Bank was part of the nonprofit organization, Baltimore Reads Inc. Today, the Book Bank is now part of The Maryland Book Bank after merging in 2014, where they continue to fulfill their mission of getting free books into the hands of children. They collect books for adults as well. Learn more about donating by clicking here.
JBC decided to share our love of reading this past Valentine’s Day with a book drive for the month of February. The Maryland Book Bank collects books of all kinds, so our team members got a head start on their spring cleaning and donated books they no longer needed. Of course, in typical JBC fashion, this became a competition between our 3rd and 4th-floor employees at the office. In total, JBC collected over 200 books!
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about these two amazing organizations that provide opportunities to uplift and support our local community!
